Creative Youth Society is a new community-based youth program serving 10–15 young people ages 14–18 in the Greater Nashville area. This project will bring together two parallel cohorts of youth creatives who will meet twice weekly during after-school hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00–6:00 PM at the McGruder Family Resource Center from mid-October 2026 through March 2027 with a culminating public community magazine launch in April 2027. The program is organized across two distinct but interconnected creative cohorts that meet simultaneously and together produce a cultural youth magazine. Each session follows a consistent three-part structure: a joint opening that brings all participants together, cohort breakouts where youth work within their respective focus areas, and a joint closing that reunites the full group to share, reflect, and build collective creative community.
The Writing and Editorial Cohort will focus on personal narrative, poetry, interview, essay, and hybrid writing forms — developing participants' literary voice and building the written content of the publication.
The Visual Art and Design Cohort will focus on photography, illustration, collage, and layout — developing participants' visual voice and building the aesthetic and design identity of the publication.
